Tamas Wiesner, the beloved former water polo player of FTC and department head, who was also a European champion, passed away at 74.

Tamas Wiesner was born on April 26, 1950. Just before Tamas Wiesner turned 19 on April 13, 1969, he started playing water polo for Ferencváros. Tamas Wiesner became good at it and won many trophies during his 15 there. Also won the Hungarian Cup five times (in 1969, 1973, 1976, 1977, and 1978), the KEK three times (in 1974, 1977, and 1979), and the LEN Super Cup twice (in 1977 and 1979). He even beat the European champions, Canottieri Napoli from Italy, and Vasas. Tamas Wiesner retired from Ferencvaros on October 21, 1984.
Tamas Wiesner’s talent and dedication led him to join the Hungarian national team, where he achieved great success. He helped the team win the European Championship in 1977 and the World Cup in 1979. Reflecting on his journey, Wiesner expressed contentment with his achievements, highlighting his pride in being part of such historic moments.
For his remarkable achievements, Tamas Wiesner was honoured with the title of perpetual champion by FTC, followed by the club’s Centenary Gold Diploma in 1999, and later the Gold Diploma in 2009.
