Al Pacino unexpectedly stole the spotlight at the 96th edition of the Oscars. The American actor disrupted one of the most thrilling moments of the gala: the presentation of the Best Picture award, which contenders such as “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “Maestro,” “Poor Creatures,” and “Oppenheimer” were vying for.

As per the protocol, the individual tasked with announcing the winner of each category is expected to precede it with a brief video recap of the nominated productions. However, Al Pacino completely overlooked this step.

In front of a surprised audience, the actor skipped the protocol. He hastily tore open the envelope to announce the winner of the Best Film category at the 96th Oscars: “Oppenheimer,” the movie about the creator of the atomic bomb, which also scooped up six other awards throughout the night.

“Best Picture… Let me get the envelope. I’m going for it. And here we go. And what do my eyes see… Oppenheimer?” Al Pacino explained, leaving many in disbelief. In fact, when the actor announced the winner, silence fell upon the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

“Oppenheimer” took the crown at the 96th edition of the film industry’s most prestigious awards, clinching seven golden statuettes, including Best Director, Best Film, and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy. Meanwhile, “Poor Creatures” secured the second spot with four awards.
